Cape Town Tickets: Every Gate Price, Both Rates

The Cape Town City Pass (SA CityPass) sells 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days of entry to what it counts as 80+ attractions, the big five of which are the Table Mountain Cableway, the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus, the Two Oceans Aquarium, Zeitz MOCAA and Groot Constantia, plus a Waterfront Charters sunset cruise. Two facts the sales page does not lead with: Robben Island is not included, and the pass's own tier prices are not stated anywhere public — they sit behind the purchase widget, so the only checkable figure is the reseller listing from $124.

The break-even is therefore arithmetic you do against the singles in the table above; the sum below is the number the pass must beat. Our one-sentence verdict: buy the pass for a packed 2–3 day visit built around the Waterfront, skip it if Robben Island and the peninsula are your core plan, because neither is on it. On two of the most-sold reseller tickets in Cape Town, the confirmation you get at checkout does not open any gate. The reseller cableway ticket is fulfilled by a local agent: the GetYourGuide voucher must be exchanged — the real barcoded cableway ticket arrives separately by WhatsApp and email, and you must confirm receipt. The Kirstenbosch entry ticket works the same way: the operator sends the valid gate ticket the day before, and the garden's gate will not scan the platform voucher itself. Robben Island resellers add a third variant — the ferry ticket is issued against your passport details, so a typo in the booking name is a real problem at the Gateway.

None of this is a scam; it is agents reselling official inventory with their own fulfilment step. But it means three habits: book these at least a day ahead (a same-day purchase can leave you at the gate waiting for a WhatsApp), check the phone number and passport details you enter, and if the barcode has not arrived by the evening before, chase the operator through the platform's chat — the 24-hour cancellation window is still open at that point, which is exactly when to use it. Buying at tablemountain.net or Webtickets skips the middle step entirely; what you give up is the platform's card-based refund process.

The pattern to internalise: the official sellers hedge with validity windows, the platforms hedge with cancellation deadlines, and the two protections stack if you plan for it.

The 1 November 2026 tariff rollover

SANParks prices — Boulders, Cape Point, and every national park gate — are published for a tariff year running 1 November to 31 October, and the current figures on this page expire on 31 October 2026. If you are reading this for a trip after 1 November 2026, expect the gates to be moderately higher (the 2025/26 adjustment added R30–R70 per person across the Cape parks) and treat our numbers as the floor. Kirstenbosch publishes its fees on the same style of cycle.

The cableway's current rate card runs 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, so it holds through the summer season either way. One more calendar trap: the cableway takes an annual winter maintenance shutdown — 27 July to 9 August in 2026, reopened 10 August — so a July–August trip should check the announced dates before counting on the ride up.

Cape Town's discount landscape is generous and almost entirely reserved for South Africans. With an SA ID: a free cableway return in your birthday month, R55 Boulders and R110 Cape Point instead of R245 and R515, R400 Robben Island, R110 Kirstenbosch plus free entry for seniors on Tuesdays, free Iziko Fridays for students and pensioners, and Zeitz free in your birthday month. African passport holders get the middle SADC tier at SANParks gates and Zeitz's free Wednesday window (arrive 10:00–13:00).

What an international visitor can actually use: the cableway's online-vs-window gap ($29.50 against R530 — buy online, always); the aquarium's one flat price with children 4–13 at R130; under-18s free at Zeitz with ID; children's rates of roughly half at every SANParks gate; and the return leg trick — a one-way cableway ticket at R300 pairs with walking down Platteklip Gorge for a $10.90 saving that also solves the afternoon. Students of any nationality get R320 cableway returns at the ticket office only, on a valid student card. None of the free days that matter to residents apply to you, and no attraction here discounts for booking early — the calendar-price games of European museums simply do not exist at these gates. The city's headline geography is free: Lion's Head, Signal Hill, the Sea Point Promenade, Bo-Kaap's streets, the Company's Garden, the V&A Waterfront precinct, the beaches from Clifton to Muizenberg, and Table Mountain itself if you walk Platteklip Gorge instead of riding — the mountain is a national park with no pay point on the City Bowl side. The Noon Gun fires free at 12:00 Monday to Saturday.

The paid list above is, in effect, four gates (island, penguins, point, garden), three buildings (silo, aquarium, castle) and a cable car.
